MAY 7, 2004
Dear Friends,
I recently received a short note from a friend whom I consider a Sage. Among other things, he stated that I should "keep on keeping on." I thought, what a flippant statement, he doesn't understand and why must I? Can't God just do it?
Then, while attending our first training for Northwest REACH camp, I sensed God's presence. I observed the cadre of professional advisors that work with us throughout the year: our physician, our nutritionist, our psychosocial team, our amazing staff, and some of the 130 volunteers that will serve the children and families this year.
Of course I'll keep on, for a season; for I hear the laughter of the children, the excitement in their voices, I sense the hope in their hearts and feel their needs, as well as the needs of all children around the world.
For a time there is laughter, playing, refreshing hope, and feeling safe. For Nathaniel, Sara, Jacob, Gretchen, Samantha, and 175 additional children and family members, there is joy in REACH. There is a lesson for me in my observation of these brave people who often falter, yet persevere in their courage. Please continue to recognize REACH, help us keep on keeping on.
Blessings my friends,
Susan K. Slonaker
P.S. I hope to see you at our fundraiser on May 15th, when Phil Keaggy will be playing a benefit concert at Life Center in Tacoma. We could really use your help in spreading the word - the enclosed flyer is a handy way of inviting people along. It's going to be an AMAZING night!
