SUZIE'S LETTERS

OCTOBER 8, 2004

Dear Friends,

The lingering Indian Summer, with its fist shaking the tail end of warmth from a cool breeze, reminds me how grateful I am for the familiarity and comfort of cycling seasons. Without doubt the rains will follow today's breeze; and as its rhythmic patter touches the earth, my soul will bounce light again like the dust where raindrops hit.

Many of you are aware of the endless stories of sacrifice made by the children we serve and by their families. So many are there, in fact, that in telling them, I seldom share the equally important quieter, humble acts of the REACH volunteers, advisors and of the staff, that occur throughout the year, long after the intense season of summer's camp.

Keith Kelley, who has volunteered with REACH for five years and is on staff at Whitworth College, shares and exemplifies the humility of our volunteers:

REACH Ministries is an incredible place offering a multitude of relational programs designed to serve those who are marginalized in today's society. Through my experience and what many volunteers witness is the amazing ways that God speaks back to you through these relationships.

I have said many times that the 'Agape' love that I have experienced through REACH surpasses anything I have ever witnessed and the glory of God's creation shines through, and I feel close to God. No matter where I live, and no matter how busy I am with work, school, etc, I know that I will constantly find my way back to the west coast to be with my REACH family!

Volunteers, advisors, and the staff, stand for compassionate values; often, courage is required to persevere against disparity. With integrity they choose priceless, sacrificial actions of compassion over indifference as they exhibit great acts of gracious giving.

We are able to continue to serve because of volunteers such as Keith, and because of you who graciously, quietly and humbly give, ensuring another season for REACH to grab all the energy available from these breezes of encouragement.

Blessings my friends,
Suzie
Susan K. Slonaker

P.S. It is with need that I ask you to continue to keep the ministry alive with your financial support. Please help sustain our operational budget with a new or continued pledge.
